Pasha
Bulker Ship on Newcastle Beach |
The
Pasha Bulker coal carrying ship was beached on Nobbys beach
in Newcastle,
NSW
after fierce storms on the 8th of June 2007.
MV Pasha Bulker and several other
ships got into trouble during a major storm in early June, even though they were
warned to move further out offshore by the Newcastle Port Corporation. The captain
of the 76,741 tonne ship operated by the Lauritzen Bulkers Shipping company was
criticized for not doing more to prevent the Pasha Bulker grounding.
The
22 crew members on board the ship were rescued safely by helicopter. Pasha Bulker
was waiting to be loaded with coal in Newcastle. The major concern of the salvage
crew was the 700 tonnes of fuel oil, 38 tonnes of diesel and 40 tonnes of lube
oil on board the ship.
