The Sturt's Desert Rose is a small shrub with a purple to
pink flower with a reddish maroon centre. It is found in
central Australia in all of the mainland states except for
Victoria. The plant is related to cotton and is from the
Malvaceae plant family.
The Sturt's Desert Rose has also been known as Darling River
Rose, Cotton Rosebush and Australian Cotton.
The Sturt's Desert Rose or Gossypium sturtianum is the floral
emblem for the Northern
Territory.
